Wim Van Biesen

Wim Van Biesen

Professor of Nephrology at Ghent University Hospital, Belgium. Head of Nephrology Section since November 2014 and the driving force behind this conference.

He is an author and co-author of more than 306 articles covering diverse nephrology topics. His clinical research encompasses dialysis adequacy, cardiovascular risk in uremia, biomarkers in AKI and CKD, and uremic toxins.

Professor Van Biesen serves as Chairman of the European Renal Best Practice (ERBP) and is Subject Editor for Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation. As Chairman of the Renal Disaster Relief Task Force (RDRTF) of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN), he coordinates international relief operations. He serves as ISN Liaison Officer for the Sister Renal Center Programs (SRCP) with Georgia/Tbilisi. He is a co-organizer of the prestigious Oxford-Ghent Summer School courses and co-chair of the "Commission for International Studies" of the International Society of Peritoneal Dialysis.

His dedication to fostering international nephrology education and his leadership in establishing meaningful partnerships, particularly with the Georgian nephrology community, exemplify his commitment to advancing global kidney care and building lasting academic relationships.

Jill Vanmassenhove

Jill Vanmassenhove

Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Department of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, and Consultant at the Nephrology Department of Ghent University Hospital, Belgium.

She holds an MD degree and achieved her specialization in Internal Medicine and Nephrology in 2009. Since 2009, she has served as a staff member of the Nephrology Department at Ghent University.

Dr. Vanmassenhove has authored over 30 publications and presented more than 15 abstracts at scientific conferences. She demonstrates strong dedication to humanitarian nephrology through her membership in the Renal Disaster Relief Task Force (RDRTF) and the Belgian Society of Nephrology (BVN-SBN), exemplifying her commitment to advancing nephrology practice both locally and internationally as part of the distinguished Ghent University Hospital nephrology team.

Evi Nagler

Evi Nagler

Clinical nephrologist in the Renal Division of Ghent University Hospital, Belgium. PhD in medical sciences (2015) and Vice Chair of European Renal Best Practice (ERBP).

She obtained her medical degree from Ghent University in 2006 and completed her residency in internal medicine with subspecialization in nephrology at Ghent University Hospital. In 2015, she earned her PhD in medical sciences.

Her main research focus is evidence-based clinical practice guideline development in nephrology. She currently serves as Vice Chair of European Renal Best Practice (ERBP), the official guidance development body of the European Renal Association (ERA).

Professor Nagler has developed particular expertise in kidney transplantation, hyponatremia, and guideline development, combining clinical practice with academic research to improve outcomes for patients with kidney disease through systematic guideline development and implementation.

Floris Vanommeslaeghe

Floris Vanommeslaeghe

Clinical nephrologist at Ghent University Hospital, Belgium, specialist in Internal Medicine and Family Medicine with PhD.

His main research interests center on optimization of renal replacement therapies, home dialysis, improving dialysis access, and coagulation disorders in kidney disease. He co-authored a chapter on renal replacement therapy in the Textbook of Critical Care.

He has delivered presentations at international conferences on anticoagulation in dialysis, drug dosing and dialysis kinetics, advanced care planning, and vascular access management. In 2016 he received the YESAO Exchange award for his project on computational modeling of arteriovenous fistula.

Lionel Rostaing

Lionel Rostaing

Nephrologist, Immunologist and Consultant in Clinical Transplantation at Grenoble University Hospital, France. Professor of Nephrology since 1999.

He graduated from Grenoble University Medical School (1984), specialized in Nephrology (1988) and Immunology (1989), and became Professor of Nephrology in 1999.

He served as Head of Department of Nephrology, Dialysis and Organ Transplantation at Toulouse University Hospital (2008-2016) and, since 2016, has been Head of Department of Nephrology, Haemodialysis, Apheresis, and Kidney Transplantation at Grenoble-Alpes University Hospital.

His research focuses on pretransplant desensitization for ABO/HLA incompatible kidney transplantation, treatments of antibody-mediated rejections, hepatitis C and E virus infections in transplant patients, cytomegalovirus prophylaxis, and evaluation of new immunosuppressive therapies including Belatacept and Iscalimab.

He is a member of multiple international societies, including ISN, ERA-EDTA, ASN, and ESOT. Professor Rostaing has authored more than 620 publications.

Jolanta Malyszko

Jolanta Malyszko

Head of the Department of Nephrology, Dialysis, and Internal Medicine at Warsaw Medical University, Poland. FASN (2007), FERA (2013), and FISN (2023).

She is a certified specialist in internal medicine, nephrology, clinical transplantation, hypertension, and diabetology. She graduated from the Medical University of Bialystok with an M.D. in 1989 and received a Ph.D. at Hamamatsu University School of Medicine, Japan in 1995.

Since 2018, she has been Head of the Department of Nephrology, Dialysis, and Internal Medicine at Warsaw Medical University, Poland. She organized a peritoneal dialysis program and an outpatient hypertension clinic at the Medical University of Bialystok.

She served as Secretary General of the Polish Society of Transplantation (2020-2024), member of the ERA-EDTA Executive Council (2015-2018), and the KDIGO Executive Council (2018-2022). Currently, she is a member of the Executive Council of ISPD and ISN, Deputy Chair of Central and Eastern Europe of ISN, Board Member of ERAKI working group (2023-2026), and Chair of ONCOERA working group (2026-2029).

Her primary research interests include renal replacement therapy, onconephrology, biomarkers of AKI, cardiovascular complications in CKD, and iron metabolism in CKD. She is an author and co-author of over 800 original papers, over 200 review papers, and over 70 book chapters, including Oxford Textbook of Clinical Nephrology (h-index-51).

Helena Zakharova

Helena Zakharova

Head of the Nephrology Department at Moscow City Clinical Hospital n.a. S.P. Botkin, Russia, and President of the Russian Dialysis Society.

She is Associate Professor at both the Russian Medical Academy of Continuous Professional Education and Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry. She graduated from Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry (1981) and completed nephrology residency at the Research Institute of Transplantation and Artificial Organs (1983). She earned her PhD in 2005.

She serves as President of the Russian Dialysis Society. She is a member of the ISN Executive Committee, a member of ISN NIS & Russia Regional Board, and chair of the ISN Educational Ambassador Program Committee. Professor Zakharova is also a member of the ISN Council and the ISN-ACT Toolkit Working Group. She previously served on the KDIGO Executive Committee and World Kidney Day Steering Committee.

Her research interests include glomerulonephritis, autoimmune systemic diseases, thrombotic microangiopathies, pregnancy-related kidney disorders, and onconephrology. She has authored over 174 publications and serves as deputy editor of the Russian Journal "Nephrology and Dialysis" and editor-in-chief of the Urology and Nephrology Open Access Journal. Professor Zakharova has organized over 20 CME courses in Russia and led ISN educational programs across Eastern Europe.

Ashot Sarkissian

Ashot Sarkissian

Pediatric Nephrologist and Head of the Division of Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation at the Arabkir Joint Medical Centre, Yerevan, Armenia.

He serves as Head of Pediatric Chair at Yerevan State Medical University and is President of the Armenian Physician Association of Nephrology, Hemodialysis, and Transplantation.

He graduated from Yerevan State Medical Institute and completed a fellowship in Pediatric Nephrology at the Institute of Pediatrics in Moscow, Russia. He has international training at the University Children's Hospital of Zurich, Switzerland, and the University Hospital of Antwerp, Belgium, establishing Armenia's living kidney donor transplantation program.

Professor Sarkissian is a member of ESPN, IPNA, and ISN. He has authored 82 scientific publications and actively participates in ISN Sister Renal Center programs.

Elnur Farajov

Elnur Farajov

Nephrologist and transplant specialist at Central Oil Workers' Hospital and Mediland Hospital in Azerbaijan. Expert for kidney transplantation at the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan.

He serves as Head of the Nephrology Department at Central Oil Workers' Hospital.

He graduated from Azerbaijan Medical University (2001) and earned his PhD from Tohoku University, Japan, in Nephrology (2009). He received the Japanese Government Monbukagakusho Scholarship (2004-2009) and completed training in Turkey.

Nikolay Bulanov

Nikolay Bulanov

Associate Professor at the Department of Internal Medicine, Occupational Diseases and Rheumatology at Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, Russia.

He provides consultant services at Tareev Clinic of Internal Diseases in Moscow. He graduated from Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (2011) and completed nephrology training in 2015.

He serves as Deputy Chair of the ISN NIS & Russia Regional Board and Chair of the Community of Young Nephrologists of the NIS and Russia Region. Dr. Bulanov is a member of the ISN Young Nephrologists Committee and regional coordinator of the Clinical Research Committee. He is also a member of the Russian Dialysis Society Executive Board.

His research focuses on kidney involvement in systemic vasculitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Fabry disease, and primary glomerulonephritis. Dr. Bulanov coordinates local patient registries on systemic vasculitides and IgA nephropathy, and led development of the ISN Toolkit on Creating a Young Nephrologists Committee.

Larisa Prikhodina

Larisa Prikhodina

Head Researcher at the Department of Inherited & Acquired Kidney Diseases, Veltishev Research Clinical Institute for Pediatrics & Children Surgery, Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University.

She is Professor of Pediatrics at Russian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education. She graduated from Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University (1994) and earned her PhD in 2012.

She serves as a Council member of ISN and Chair of ISN NIS & Russia Regional Board (2023-2025). Professor Prikhodina is a Council member of ESPN and IPNA, and a member of ESPN Working Groups on Nephrotic Syndrome and Inherited Renal Diseases. She is also a Council member of the Russian Association of Pediatric Nephrology and the Scientific Society of Nephrologists of Russia.

Her research focuses on glomerulopathies, nephrotic syndrome, inherited kidney diseases, genetics, and epidemiology. She serves as co-investigator in international research projects including PodoNet, ARegPKD, ADPedKD, and OxalEurope registries. Professor Prikhodina has authored over 250 publications and organized numerous ISN CME courses and international training programs in Russia.

Dmytro D Ivanov

Dmytro D Ivanov

Chief of Nephrology and Renal Replacement Therapy Department at Shupyk National University of Public Health of Ukraine and Head of the Kyiv Pediatric Nephrology Center.

He serves as State Chief Pediatric Nephrologist in Ukraine and graduated from Bogomolets National Medical University (1987).

He is a member of ISN, EPNA/IPN, and ERA-EDTA. Professor Ivanov served as Vice-President of the Ukrainian Nephrology Association (2003-2007) and founded the Annual Renal Eastern Europe Nephrology Academy CME course ERA-EDTA (2006-2021).

His research interests include hypertension, diabetic kidney disease, pediatric nephrology, and renal replacement therapy. He has authored over 400 articles and 15 books, and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Ukrainian medical journal "Kidneys".

Kirill Komissarov

Kirill Komissarov

Head of Nephrology, Renal Replacement Therapy, and Kidney Transplantation Department at Minsk Scientific and Practical Center in Belarus.

He is Associate Professor at Belarusian State Medical University. He defended his PhD in cardionephrology in 2006. Dr. Komissarov received scholarships at university clinics in the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, the UK, and Australia through ISN and ISPD programs.

He serves as Chair of the ISN Regional Board for NIS and Russia and is a member of the ISN CME and Fellowship Program Committee. Dr. Komissarov is a member of ERA, the Russian Dialysis Society, and the ISN. His research interests include IgA nephropathy, transplant nephrology, and CKD management in elderly patients.

Abduzhappar Gaipov

Abduzhappar Gaipov

Associate Professor at Nazarbayev University School of Medicine, Program Director of Internal Medicine residency and nephrology fellowship programs, and Senior nephrologist at CF University Medical Center in Kazakhstan.

He is a Fellow of ERA (2011-2012, Turkey) and ISN (2017-2018, USA). Dr. Gaipov is the winner of the MSHE 2022 "Best Scientist" award, recipient of the Elsevier Scopus Award 2018 & 2021, and Web of Science Award "Leader of Science" 2020 from Clarivate Analytics.

He has authored more than 200 articles and serves as editor-in-chief and editorial board member of peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Gaipov is the Principal Investigator of scientific projects with approximately 1.5M USD funding. He has an H-index of 25 in Scopus and an H-index of 29 in Google Scholar.

Irma Tchokhonelidze

Irma Tchokhonelidze

Head of the Internal Medicine Department at Tbilisi State Medical University and Clinical Director of the Nephrology Development Clinical Centre. President of the Dialysis, Nephrology, and Kidney Transplantation Union of Georgia since 2003.

At TSMU, she established the post-graduate program in Nephrology in 2004 and has since been running it as director and educator. She also serves as Renal Module Director and Internal Medicine Clerkship Director for the USMD program at TSMU.

Her international leadership roles include serving as ISN Councilor (2011-2017), ISN NIS & Russia Regional Board Chair (2014-2019), and Chair of the ISN Dialysis Working Group (since 2023-2024). She was a KDIGO Executive Committee member (2022-2024) and has served as principal investigator in multiple clinical multicenter trials.

Recognized as the founder of nephrology in Georgia, she received the ISN 2023 Pioneer Award for the NIS and Russia region, demonstrating her central position in Georgian nephrology education, clinical practice, and healthcare policy development.
